We are seeking a friendly, community and customer focused team member to join our Economy and Creative Industries Department as Tourism Assistant at the Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre in Apollo Bay, Victoria in a Temporary Part-Time, Fixed Term 12-month Maternity Leave position, 4 days per week Sunday to Wednesday.

This position is based at the Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre in Apollo Bay.
As Tourism Assistant you will ensure that Council:
- Provides a courteous, efficient and prompt service to all visitors to the Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre (GORVIC) and Colac Otway Shire Residents.
- Actively promotes the greater region through the delivery of information on accommodation, tours and attractions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide a high level of customer service at all times with counter, phone and online enquiries.
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre including maintenance of accommodation referral system, presentation and distribution of printed materials, retail sales and completion of administration tasks.
- Resolve customer service enquiries and feedback through accurate and efficient personal attention, following the Customer Service Charter.
- Assist the Coordinator GORVIC and other internal stakeholders in monitoring visitor numbers, trends and undertaking research.
- Monitor the region’s destination websites to ensure that the information is current.
- Maintain accurate and up to date information for visitors including accommodation referral system database.
- Provide operator support to local businesses with marketing opportunities and business listings.
About You:
To support your success in this role you will:
- Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal skills in relation to working as part of a team, working with minimal supervision, using initiative and adapting to a constant changing and fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the local region, greater Victoria and tourism industry.
- Demonstrated high ability to work with and relate effectively to a variety of clients offering a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated problem solving abilities.
- Well-developed computer literacy and skills, including experience in using databases and other computer software programs such as Microsoft suite.
- Experience in implementing marketing initiatives particularly through an online presence.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Current drivers licence
Salary information: $34.02 to $35.84 per hour plus superannuation.
