We are seeking a motivated team player to join our Parks & Gardens team as Multipurpose Officer Parks & Gardens in a casual capacity.

Located within two hours south-west of Melbourne, Colac Otway is renowned for its magnificent southern coastline, the Otway rainforests and the northern lakes and offers an attractive lifestyle with diverse employment opportunities. This position is based at the Colac depot.

As Multipurpose Officer Parks & Gardens you will:

  • Maintain a standard of the appearance, presentation and amenity of the parks, gardens and streetscapes for our residents and visitors to enjoy.
  • Become a valued member of the Parks and Gardens team, carrying out allocated tasks at the Botanic Gardens and other Parks, Streetscapes and road reserves within the Colac Otway Shire region.
  • Complete tasks with an emphasis on safety, quality and budget requirements to meet corporate values and standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Displaying a positive attitude and personal contribution in undertaking daily horticultural/arboricultural duties within a team environment.
  • Providing courteous and prompt attention to external and internal customer requests.
  • Undertaking manual tasks in the execution of duties required for all maintenance tasks on parks and gardens, streetscapes and road reserves, Council owned and managed land to help utilise resources allocated, including plant, labour and materials required to maximize organisational and customer efficiency.
  • Providing information and supervision to employees as is necessary to enable employees and subcontractors to perform their work in a manner that is safe and without risk to health.

About You:

To support your success in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in operating larger horticultural plant and equipment.
  • Capability of performing physical manual labour tasks.
  • Well written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of horticultural operations.
  • Sound OH&S knowledge and experience.
  • An OH&S Construction Induction Card/White Card.
  • A current driver’s licence is essential.
  • Heavy truck licence is desirable.
  • Proven team player.
  • A willingness to undertake training in personal development programs.

Salary information: $40.56 to $42.90 per hour including industry allowance plus superannuation.
