Colac Otway Shire Council are seeking an energetic and self-motivated Swim School Instructor at our Bluewater Leisure Centre in a casual position.

Bluewater Leisure Centre is a multipurpose aquatic and recreation centre.  At Bluewater, we are proud to provide Colac and surrounding areas a first-class leisure and recreation facility that sits amongst the best a regional town has to offer. Bluewater is owned and operated by the Colac Otway Shire Council, which aims to ensure the centre provides health and fitness participation options for all ages.

This position is based in Colac.

As a Swim School Instructor your important role is:

  • To apply the Life Saving Victoria (LSV) Swim and Survive skills and knowledge required to conduct safe and enjoyable swimming lessons for a variety of ages and abilities.
  • Contribute to a positive customer experience at Bluewater and encourage further visitation and participation in Bluewater Swim School programs.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient operating environment at Bluewater consistent with law, regulations and Council Policy.
  • To ensure continuous improvement and best value outcomes through innovation, individual development and industry compliance.
  • Consists of 100% direct service duties.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan, prepare resources for and safely conduct swimming lessons to the LSV Swim and survive standard.
  • Monitor use and condition of aquatic and swim school equipment.
  • Assist with the training of LSV Swim and survive training candidates.
  • Ensure Bluewater operates in accordance with all relevant government Acts, Regulations and guidelines, as well as Colac Otway Shire and Bluewater policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all feedback is reported and recorded according to Centre feedback procedures.

 

About You:

To support your success in this role you will have:

  • Minimum Swim instructor qualification, or desire to achieve and experience in a similar role.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Knowledge of water familiarisation techniques, the principles of movement in water, best practice principles of aquatic activities and the biomechanical principles of swimming strokes.
  • Commitment and capacity to work flexible hours to reflect the operational requirements of the service.
  • Present and communicate well with an approachable and positive attitude to build trust and rapport with clients.
  • Passion for working with others to develop supportive relationships and help them achieve goals.
  • Can demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and time management skills.
  • Willingness to participate in staff training opportunities to further develop skills.
  • A Current Working with Children Check.

Salary information: $39.49 to $41.83 per hour plus superannuation
